A Touching Moment During French Human Rights Ambassador’s Visit to Hope Makers Organization for Woman

During her visit to Sinjar on May 6, 2025, Ms. Isabelle Rome, the French Ambassador for Human Rights, accompanied by the French Consul in Mosul, toured the Hope Makers Organization for Woman (HMOW) center to witness its work supporting women and children affected by conflict.

While observing the center's programs, a moving moment unfolded: one of the beneficiaries, upon meeting Dr. Nagham Hassan, HMOW's Executive Director, was so overcome with emotion that she instinctively embraced her. The spontaneous gesture reflected deep gratitude and trust—values at the heart of the organization’s mission.

Dr. Nagham Hassan shared her thoughts on the moment:

“That hug meant everything. It reminded me why I do this work—not just to provide services, but to restore dignity and hope. It reaffirmed my role as a human rights defender, and the power of human connection in healing and rebuilding lives.”

The visit also included a bilingual Arabic-French course for children and a women’s awareness session on breaking the silence around gender-based violence, demonstrating the center’s holistic approach to empowerment and recovery.

This heartfelt exchange highlighted the human impact of HMOW’s work and the importance of local and international cooperation in defending human rights and rebuilding war-affected communities.
